Tahani was so excited to see 5aled, she couldn’t believe he called and asked to see her. He stopped doing that in a long time. ‘Things are going to get better’ she thought as she got dressed. She chose her Bebe silk flower top, with a black tight skinny jeans, Sergio Rossi high heel sandals, put on eyeliner, eyeshadow (she made extra effort with her makeup this evening) glittery lipgloss, pink blush (that suits her skin tone well), she wore a necklace that 5aled gave her as an engagement present as soon as they got engaged, (other than her ring of course), diamond stud earings, and her Van Cleef and Arples watch. She took her Hermes bag from the side of her dressing table, put on her favorite perfume (Miracle, Lancome) and left the house.
‘I’m going to give him a chance, akeed ohwa 7ass fe nafsa ina he was too harsh with me the last couple of weeks, akeed mit2asif’ she smiled to herself as she turned on the radio.
‘i’ll start with him a new start, i’ll be a new person…’ she kept thinking, ‘i’ll make him happy’….

5aled reached Zoe’s, and saw Tahani’s car parked outside, it was 8:10pm which means he was 10 minutes late (as usual). His heart started to beat faster, he took a deep breath and entered the restaurant. ‘I have to do this’ he told himself.

10 minutes later, they ordered their meal and drinks (without starters), and stared at each other.

Tahani was shocked, she went cold……
She wished she was in a bad dream and would wake up in any minute. But she wasn’t.
Her mouth went dry, her eyes started to water, and still she couldn’t say anything…
Now she knew where this was going…
She wanted him to stop before things got worse, before he broke her heart, but it was too late, her heart already cracked…
She sat there, waiting for the worst to come…
“ana agool mane9la7 7ag ba3a’9 Tahani..face it, we’re not in love” 5aled knew he was being too harsh on her, but this was hard on him as well..
Tahani felt his last words hit her like a bomb..
She didn’t want to cry in front of all the people at Zoe’s, she didn’t want to make a scene, but she felt like she was going to explode, she wanted to curl up in her bed, cry her eyes out and go to sleep..so she got up, fighting back her tears, looked at him one last look that broke his heart as well, and walked out of there without even finishing her food.
5aled didn’t want things to end with her that way, but he felt that he had to…he wanted to live his life the right way, to the fullest extent… and he knew Tahani would thank him one day, because she deserved better..and so did he.
He wanted to be happy, he wanted to be by her side, he wanted to be with her, and that’s how he was going to be happy. This was what his life should’ve been like a long time ago. With Maya in it. He was with the wrong person for a long time, as far as he can remember, and that was going to change.
5aled forced himself to finish his food, since he was in a restaurant. He knew what he did was right, maybe the wrong way, but right. For both of them, one day Tahani would understand.
He sat there, drinking his coffee after his meal, (he needed caffiene, he had a strong headache)thinking about how to get her. ‘Now that Tahani wasn’t in the picture, surely she’d agree to be with me..right?’

Tahani ran up to her room, tears streaming down her face, kicked off her heels, threw her handbag on the floor, changed furiously almost ruining her silk top, wore hey pj’s and jumped into bed, covering her face with her blanket and crying and crying and crying.
She cried for hours, just thinking about him and what he said, and that she’s no longer his fiance anymore…that he hurt her when she was willing to change herself and put up a lot of his unpleasant behaviour just to make him happy…
she replayed the conversation they had over and over again in her mind, and each time she remembered his last words “face it we’re not in love” she cried even harder….
3 and a half hours of non stop crying, she picked up her fone and dialled her number.
She needed to talk to her, she needed to tell her what happened….most of all, she needed her friend.

“aloo” Maya said in a lazy voice, she was in bed, she wanted to sleep early that night since she was going to have breakfast at her aunty’s house

“omg Tahani wha’ts wrong?” Maya sat straight up in her bed, opening the lamp beside her
“hee…he…b…b…brokeupwithmeeee” Tahani kept sobbing, her words were blurred by her crying but Maya managed to understand what she was saying
“omg Tahani babe i’m so sorry…do u need me to come over?” Maya felt torn between being sad for her friend, and happy for herself. (She knew what this meant…)

Tahani kept sobbing….

Maya couldn’t help it, she cried silently as she listened to her friend talk about her life falling apart and her future breaking into tiny pieces…

Lulwa felt bad that night, did she have the right to go talk to 5aled behind Maya’s back?
But she couldn’t let her friend do the biggest mistake in her life…someone had to stand up, and so she did!
‘if Maya finds out, she woud be mad at me in the beginning but she’ll know later on that i meant no harm’ Lulwa thought to herself.. so she decided not to tell Maya anything about the conversation she had with 5aled..
She did what she thought was right, and the rest is to them…

5aled wore his thob and red ‘3itra, took his car keys then left the house. He had to do this, he just had to..Maya happening to him was a wake up call, it made him realize that life’s too short to live a lie, plus Tahani didn’t deserve that..she deserved to be truly happy with someone who loved her, and so did he..
The feeling he had, when he saw Maya at Tahani’s party, was too powerful to control…it was stronger than the force of nature..
He never felt that way around Tahani…he didn’t know why, she was beautiful, sweet, kind to him, but there was something about her that was missing. She could never make him feel what he felt towards Maya. He knew Maya felt the same way about him from the look on her face whenever she sees him, and not starting a relationship with him because of Tahani, made Maya an angel to him..He fell deeper knowing that she wouldn’t hurt anyone, and that she would sacrifice her own happiness for her friend’s sake…
He wanted Tahani out of his life, he did so a long time ago, but he put up with her because he thought this was his fate, he didn’t know that life could be more interesting until Maya, so now he’s going to talk to Tahani and end things with her, and be with the one who made him fall in love for once in his life, who dazzled him, who made him think about her 24/7, who made him smile in his sleep, the girl who changed his life. Tahani, on the other hand, was miserable, she didn’t know what to do. She doesn’t even have a clue about 5aled’s personaily changing so much with her, she saw him act the same with his family, old friends, everyone but her.
‘WHY’ she would think, as she cries herself to sleep…’what did i do to deserve this? did i drive him away?’ she couldn’t help but wonder if it was her fault for him to act this way.

Tahani wore her blue sleevless top, with a white long sleeve cardigan on top to cover up her arms, and light blue skinny jeans, with matching blue balerina shoes, and her Hermes bag (that got all the attention), she didn’t bother with make up that day, but still managed to look lovely with her long brown hair falling onto her back. She always looked lovely, even when something was bothering her, you couldn’t tell. This was Tahani, and perhaps 5aled found that frustrating or annoying, because she never showed her emotions.
She wore her brown Gucci sunglasses, and left to the car, heading to Nino’s…

Maya wore a purple tshirt, grey skinny jeans, brown sandals that showed her painted toes, wore eyeliner, put on cherry lipbalm, wore her sunglasses, took her handbag and went downstairs to look for her car keys and left the house.

Tahani reached Nino’s, ordered a diet coke, and waited for Maya.
2 minutes later, Maya showed up, saw Tahani sitting on the table, and walked up to her with a worried smile on her face.
They kisses each other on both cheeks, and sat down.
“Thanks for making it on such short notice” Tahani said
“my pleasure” Maya said, nervously
They ordered their food, Tahani ordered white sauce pasta, and Maya ordered steak and mushrooms.

That week was hectic for Maya, she had so many things to do. She had her cousin’s engagement party to go to, her mother’s (mini) birthday party that took place at her grandmother’s house, lunch with her family on Friday, went to the movies with Lulwa and some girls….lots of things were done that week. In a good way, it occupied Maya from thinking about him…

On the other hand..

5aled could not take his mind off Maya, she was all he thought about, whenever, wherever, with whoever, he always thought about him, and that made him change with Tahani..
He started not answering all of her calls, he stopped telling her how pretty she looked. Everything he used to do before, became less now, and the worst thing is, Tahani could feel it.
Tahani felt him being distant lately, she knew something wasn’t right but she couldn’t put her finger on it..

From the beginning of their engagement (Tahani and 5aled), she knew something was missing, but because it was her first time in a relationship she didn’t know the difference…
‘This is how men are like’ she told herself, ‘it’s just his personality’ she would tell herself wheneve she didn’t like what he did.
